In addition to producing wonderful cues by exploiting the beauty of fine and exotic woods, from the very beginning our main goal has been to create a new type of cue that would solve the main problem for every player:
THE DEFLECTION OF THE CUE BALL'S TRAJECTORY WHEN SHOOTING WITH SPIN, KNOWN WORLDWIDE AS “DEFLECTION”.
If you are already an experienced player, you surely already know about this issue, but allow us to explain it as simply as possible for those who may not be completely clear about it.
It is important to know that the shot on the cue ball, the reason why a billiard cue is used, can be made by hitting it in the center, or by making spin shots, that is, hitting the ball above, below, to the right, or to the left of the center.
Spin shots to the side of the center of the ball generate a resulting direction of the cue ball that is different from the line of aim; this effect is commonly referred to as “DEFLECTION”
“DEFLECTION” represents the main unknown for the player during the game phases as it cannot be exactly calculated but only hypothesized, which is why it is of fundamental importance to minimize and/or eliminate this phenomenon.
“DEFLECTION” is the consequence of different physical principles that manifest during the execution of the shot and in the interaction that is generated at the moment of contact between the tip and the cue ball.
“DEFLECTION” is influenced by several factors, some of which concern the equipment such as:
The friction generated between the tip and the cue ball
The coefficient of friction of the cloth installed on the billiard table
All the characteristics of the cue and the shaft such as elasticity/rigidity, weight, balance, and the position of the flex point of the shaft.
But above all, with equal materials and equipment, “DEFLECTION” depends on the type of stroke the player has. With the cue, different types of strokes generate different “DEFLECTION” effects!
This explains why the same cue is not equally appreciated by two different players. In fact, you have surely tried a cue from a friend who considers it fantastic and with little “DEFLECTION”, but YOU DO NOT THINK IT IS RIGHT FOR YOU!
